Woman ends life inside Ludhiana police station
LUDHIANA : A 28-year-old woman accused of ATM frauds allegedly hanged herself in the bathroom of the Dugri police station in Ludhiana on Saturday morning. The woman was arrested on Friday.
LUDHIANA: A 28-year-old woman accused of ATM frauds allegedly hanged herself in the bathroom of the Dugri police station in the city on Saturday morning.
Ramandeep Kaur (28) and her live-in partner Mukul Garg, both from Kotkapura in Faridkot district, were arrested from their rented accommodation in Dugri on Friday. They had been Ludhiana for the last 10 years.
Police said two women constables Amandeep Kaur and Rajwinder Kaur took her to the bathroom in the morning. When she did not came out after a while, the policewomen knocked at the door. When she did not respond, they peeped in through the window and saw her hanging from a 7-foot high log. They raised an alarm after which fellow staffers took her out of the bathroom.
Ramandeep was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. After getting information, senior police officials reached the spot and started investigation. A judicial inquiry has been marked in the case.
A forensic team reached the spot to collect evidences.
Police commissioner RN Dhoke said the two were arrested in connection with a fraudulent cash transaction from a local resident’s bank account. The police had recovered a laptop, mobile phones, CDs, hard disks from their house.
Earlier, a case under sections 379 (theft), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against unidentified accused.
The police claimed the two had confessed to have committed the crime. They were to be produced in court on Saturday.
District and sessions judge, Ludhiana, has been requested to depute a judicial magistrate for conducting judicial inquiry into this.
‘WERE FACING CASES IN CHANDIGARH, HARYANA, MUMBAI’
Police commissioner Dhoke said during investigation it was found the two were experts in committing ATM frauds and were habitual offenders.
Several cases are registered against them in Chandigarh, Haryana and Mumbai, he said.
He said they cloned ATM cards of unsuspecting people by installing skimming devices at ATM kiosks and petrol pumps.
Then they used the data to make duplicate ATM cards for withdrawing money, shopping and also making online transactions at times.
