State’s first women police training centre to come up at Hisar: Khattar
Says state needs womenonly police battalion as large number of females participate in protests
HISAR: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced that the state’s first training centre for women cops will soon come up in Hisar. He said this while addressing the second women police day at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar.
Khattar said, “There are only three police training centres in Haryana. Director general of police (DGP) Baljeet Singh Sandhu had demanded a special training centre for women cops. We have decided to construct it in Hisar.”
“The local administration has been asked to identify an appropriate location and send a proposal in this regard,” he added.
Praising the women cops in Haryana, Khattar said their performance has been “very good” and that they have helped in settling disputes by counselling families.
The chief minister added that soon a counsellor will be appointed in all women police station. “Apart from this, we have also decided to setup crèche in all police stations,” he said.
Khattar also felicitated four women cops for their exemplary performance and flagged off 100 new scooters which will be distributed among different women police stations in the state.
WOMEN POLICE BATTALION IN THE OFFING
Meanwhile, the chief minister also said that the state will soon have a women police battalion, for which 1,000 new posts will be created. “When the BJP formed its government in Haryana, the percentage of women in police was just 6%. Due to our efforts, this stands at 9.3% presently. I am sure once this battalion comes into force, this will further rise to 11.6%,” Khattar said.
Speaking on the need for such battalion, he said, “It is required because it has been observed that In Haryana, women participate in large numbers in protests.”
Besides this, the chief minister also announced that ten new police stations will be setup at the sub-division level.
The CM also said that the government has identified 30 locations where new women’s colleges will be setup in the state. These colleges will start functioning within two years, he said.
