Haryana govt modifies selection criteria for state teachers’ award

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has decided to introduce some modifications in the criteria for selecting teachers for the state award this year.

The government says these changes are being made to recognise those teachers who have maintained an overall good service record but have not been selected in the past due to relatively low performance in years where they availed leaves.

For the state award 2017, the government will consider the teachers’ effective performance in the last five or ten years (a final decision on the term is yet to be taken).

For example, let’s suppose the government decides to consider the performance in the last five years.

The period in ordinary case will be from 2012 to 2017.

However, if any teacher has availed a long-term leave in this period (say a six month leave in 2013), then the leave period (six months of 2013) will not be taken into account and an equal period prior to 2012 will be considered as the effective years for the award.

A spokesman of the school education department on Saturday said that as per the eligibility conditions for the awards, annual confidential reports (ACRs) for the last 10 years will be considered.

He added that it had been noticed that some teachers, despite good performance, could not be selected because they had availed authorised leave like medical, maternity or childcare leave.

However, the Manohar lal Khattar-led government is yet to take a final call on whether the assessment period will be five years of 10 years for this year’s award.
