BATALA: Even after more than 24 hours, the Batala police have failed to trace the assailant, who reportedly opened fire at a subinspector (SI) of the counter intelligence department here on Friday night.

The police said that more than a dozen police teams are working round the clock and raiding all possible hideouts, but have failed to arrest the accused so far.

“As per the statement of injured SI Kushkaran Singh, police have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 25/27/54/59 Arms Act against Rajinder Singh alias Ladda,” said Civil Lines station house oficer (SHO) Amolakh Singh.

WHAT HAPPENED

On Friday, the police team received a tip off about some criminal’s presence on Kahnuwan Road. The team went to Lalianwali Gali. During the raid, Ladda, fearing that the team was there to nab him, opened fire at them. A shot hit the SI. Others tried to nab the accused but he managed to flee the spot.
