Will tighten noose on snatchers, says ADGP

AMRITSAR: The additional director general of police (ADGP) (law and order) Rohit Chaudhary in a public meeting, met renowned industrial­ists, businessme­n, traders and hoteliers at the local Khanna Paper Mills on Saturday.

Chaudhary said, “Snatching is a serious issue and police will soon start counsellin­g sessions for snatchers who are not habitual criminals.”

The ADGP said, “We are focusing on different ways to tackle the menace.” “We have been mapping the snatching incidents. This is becoming a social problem.”

“We will deal with the habitual criminals in the police way. But people who are just allured towards for it easy money will be counselled,” he said.

“We will tie up with NGOs to counsel the snatchers to bring them back to a normal life,” he said.

The participan­ts apprised ADGP of problems including traffic issues, drunk driving cases and need of tourism police for the city. The need for installati­on of more CCTV (Closedcirc­uit television) cameras was also discussed in the meeting.

The ADGP said that youths should be focused upon more. He said that soon police liasoning officers will be posted at the university for better coordinati­on with students.

“Women constables will be posted at colleges to ensure the eve teasing menace stops,” he said. Meanwhile, the ADGP also stressed that a lot was being done to change the police working.

He added, “I am interactin­g more with people to get their feedbacks.”
