GURGAON: A 36-year old man was arrested on Saturday night for allegedly killing his two minor daughters after a quarrel with his wife in New Palam Vihar. The accused, identified as Mahesh alias Sugrat Yadav, suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair and this led to frequent fights between the couple, the police said.

Sources said on Saturday night, too, the couple had a fight from 8pm to 10pm after which Mahesh, in a drunken state, killed his two daughters Neha (5) and Pooja (3). Police said he grabbed a brick and bludgeoned his daughters to death.

Police said his wife Sonam, who worked as a domestic help, left the house along with their two minor sons after the couple had an altercation. He later called the police control room around 11pm and told the police about the incident.

A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused at Bajghera police station on the complaint of his wife. The brick with which he killed his daughters has been recovered, the police said.

His neighbours said that Mahesh had threatened to kill his daughters if his wife left the house at night. They said he was afraid she would to go to the police station and file a complaint against him after the altercation.

Police said Mahesh worked as a stonecutter and polisher and had recently shifted to a semiconstructed house in New Palam Vihar with his wife and children.

His daughters were found dead by the police when they arrived at the under construction house in Q block of New Palam Vihar, around one-kilometre from the Dwarka Expressway. Mahesh, who had moved to his new house only a few days ago, was arrested from the spot.

Inspector Shamsuddin, station house officer, Bajghera police station, said, “The younger daughter was hit on the head by a brick two to three times and succumbed to internal injuries that she sustained. The elder one was hit on the head and face with a brick and she suffered both internal and external injuries. One side of her face was battered.”

Blood was splattered on the floor of the room even on Sunday afternoon. Food items lay untouched in the kitchen and clothes were strewn all around.

“Yadav had frequent fights with his wife. He often used to tell us he wanted to die,” a neighbour said.
