‘Fake’ IB officer staged abduction: CID
RANCHI: The CID investigations into the suicide of an alleged conman, who pretended to be an intelligence officer, revealed that the 27-year-old had cooked up the story of his abduction.
Shiv Saroj Kumar hanged himself from a tree on August 3 after sending emails to the PMO and other officials accusing a police inspector and a DSP of humiliating him and his father when they went to lodge the abduction report, which he said had prompted him to take the extreme step. The police have maintained that Kumar hanged himself after they exposed that he was not an IB officer when he had come to file the complaint.
The deceased’s father had lodged an FIR against the officers on charges of abetment to suicide. However, during the probe CID found a CCTV footage that showed Kumar roaming freely on the night he claimed he was abducted and dialling the police emergency number. In a mail, which is being treated as Kumar’s suicide note, the deceased had claimed that around 10:30 pm on July 30 he was drugged and abducted. He added that an hour later, when he woke up, he found himself in the dickey of a car from where he called the police.
“As per the CCTV footage, while walking alone on the street, he (Kumar) first dialled 100 at 11:56 pm but the moment the responder received the call he disconnected. Hence, the call did not register in the 100 dial log,” said a senior IPS officer from the investigation team.
The officer said Kumar had been lying to both his father and the police and the moment he realised that he stood exposed, he committed suicide.The CID has submitted its report to the government and has given a clean chit to the police officers accused of abetting Kumar’s suicide.
Hindustan Times is in possession of a letter that Kumar had claimed was from the IB and listed him as an assistant central intelligence officer. The letter turned out to be fake, the investigating officer said.
