Baptised Sikh boy cuts own hair in Moga

Taking advantage of the recent braid-chopping spree, a 15-year-old baptised Sikh boy of Daulatpura village cut his own hair and then spread rumours that it was handiwork of ‘a gang’.

Pardeep Pal wanted to have a haircut, and thought of the recent incidents as a perfect cover to execute his plans.

Under tenets governing the Sikh religion, a baptised Sikh is supposed to maintain Maryada by keeping and maintainin­g long hair. Pal, initially stuck to his theory, but blurted out the truth after a local Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Boota Singh grilled him.Pal admitted that he had cut his hair himself as he wanted to keep short hair, something his parents had forbidden him to do, as he was from a baptised family.

Police said they were called after the boy reported that his hair were cut while he was sleeping at night. “When we reached the village, it was clear that the boy had concocted a story on his hair being cut. No action was sought,’ a police source said.

50-YR-OLD’S HAIR CHOPPED OFF

JALANDHAR:Raj Rani, 50, of Tagore Nagar, complained to the police that someone chopped off her braid after she fainted in the kitchen after cooking food.

Her son Sahil informed that when he came after taking shower, he found his mother lying unconsciou­s with her braid chopped off.

Official from police station-5 reached the spot and started investigat­ion.

ANOTHER INCIDENT IN HOSHIARPUR

HOSHIARPUR: In the second incident of its kind from the district, a 42-year-old migrant woman’s hair were mysterious­ly chopped off in district’s Bhikhowal village on Monday night.

On Saturday night, an elderly woman’s hair were cut in New Vijay Nagar locality.

Hariana police were informed in the morning that unidentifi­ed person had chopped off the braid of one Chanderkal­i after intoxicati­ng her.

The police reached the spot and took the locks in their possession.

Hariana station house officer (SHO) Yadwinder Singh said, “The matter looked suspicious as the chopped hair did not match with the hair of the woman. There was little possibilit­y of an outsider reaching the woman. The woman concerned is yet not medically fit to record her statement.”
