22-year-old IT executive ‘stalked’ in Gurgaon

GURGAON: A day after the Chandigarh stalking incident, a 22-yearold woman IT executive in Gurgaon was allegedly stalked on Sunday night by two men in a car.

They allegedly passed lewd comments while she was returning home from work on a scooter. The woman, who was chased by the accused for almost 20 minutes, is in shock and is staying at home since the incident, her fiancé said.

The FIR says the incident happened around 11:45pm on Sunday when the victim was headed home on her scooter from her office in Sector 17.

She was on a call with her fiancé at the time of the incident.

“Usually, her shift starts around 10.30pm and ends at 8 am, but, on Sunday, she was not feeling well and left early for home,” her fiancé told Hindustan Times. As her shift ended in the morning, she did not use the office cab service.

Near Sirhaul Chowk, an unknown person standing near a parked car attempted to stop her. At first, she thought someone was looking for help. However, her fiancé advised her to keep moving.

She informed him that one person was standing outside a car while another was in the driver’s seat.

Suddenly, she realised that the car was following her and she tried to speed away, her fiance said. However, the car came close to her scooter and the accused allegedly made sexual remarks at her.

The accused allegedly tried to stop her near Iffco Chowk again. She tried shouting for help, but no one came to help her.

Finally, when she reached Sector 14, near the ICICI Bank, she stopped her scooter and asked a commuter for help. The accused allegedly threatened the commuter and he too went away, the complaint said.

The victim told the police she took a narrow lane to reach her home and the accused was unable to follow her in the car.

“She is in a lot of trauma and has high fever. I was also scared at the way the entire episode unfolded. I felt helpless. In between, the call got disconnected and I started from New Colony to find her,” the fiancé said. On Monday, the fiancé took her to the police station to file a complaint.

A case has been registered at the Sector 14 police station under the Section 354-D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
