JHAJJAR:Jat leader Yashpal Malik launched www.jatjagriti.com, an online matchmaking portal for the community on Sunday at their ‘Bhaichara Rally’ organised in Jhajjar.

The online portal already lists a number of prospective brides and grooms along with their biodata, which includes details such as the ‘gotra’ (clan) of the candidates, their mothers and grandmothers.

The khap panchayats, the quasi-judicial bodies in the Jat community, consider it a sin for a boy and a girl to marry in the same gotra.

Launching the portal, Malik, the national president of the All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS), said it would be helpful for parents in finding suitable matches for their kids as per their requirements. He said the service would be free of cost, unlike other similar websites.

The Jat leader is also starting Jat Seva Sangh—a social organisation for the community, under which he says they will open educational institutes and other community service platforms. “With around Rs 2 crore donations that we collected during our two month dharna earlier this year, we will start educational institute named after Jat leader Chhotu Ram. The foundation stone of that institute will be laid in Rohtak on November 26,” Malik said.

He said Jat Seva Sangh will open more such schools and colleges for Jat youth. The rally was attended by Jat leaders from UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana.
