AWARENESS CAMP ON ESI SCHEME HELD AT J&K
A programme to help create awareness about the ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) Scheme was held for the officers of the Labour Department, government of Jammu and Kashmir, by officers of the ESI Corporation. It was attended by Dr. Abdul Rashid, labour commissioner, government of J&K, Sh. M K Arya, regional director, ESIC, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, state medical commissioner, ESIC, Ms. Ankur Mahajan, deputy labour commissioner, government of J&K, and Sh. Parveen Moudgil, deputy director, ESIC, with assistant labour commissioners, labour inspectors, officers of EPF and labour inspectors from the Jammu division of the Labour Department participating in it.
Sh. Arya briefed the participants about the extension of the ESI Scheme in all the 22 districts of the state, adding that the actual coverage of industrial units and employees had not been as expected. He urged the Labour Department to offer cooperation and support in helping the scheme’s benefits reach its beneficiaries. He also requested officers of the Welfare Board of Building and Other Construction Labour Act in the state to share the data of the construction units registered with them with the ESI department so that the ESI Act could be applied to the workers on these units.
Dr. Abdul Rashid assured that his department would be extending all support to the ESI Corporation in achieving the maximum coverage of units and employees. A similar session would be organised in Srinagar, he informed.
