Barnala mega job fair a ‘flop show’
BARNALA: A mismatch at all levels with no job offer was the highlight of the day-long mega job fair that the district administration organised at the district administrative complex (DAC) on Monday. For an event that had the District Bureau of Employment Generation and Training as the co-organiser under the state government’s 'Ghar Ghar Naukari' programme, the arrangements were woefully poor.
Of 4,000 youngsters who thronged the venue, most remained clueless about the number and nomenclature of posts. No help or information in this regard was made available.
There was visible disinterest among recruiters with most starting to leave the venue by 4pm, when job aspirants were still entering the venue. A government press note claimed that 1,150 people had been shortlisted.
“We got around 200 applications. Most candidates are in the age group of 18-20 and are not even matriculates. Most refused to join, saying they were not interested in low-level jobs,” said the representative of a recruitment firm.
LIC got over 500 applications for an agent’s post. LIC development officer Ram Naresh said, “It will take time to short list candidates.”
A candidate told HT, “I was given token number 565 and was advised to go upstairs. I could not find any recruiter there as all had already left.”DC Ghanshyam Thori said, “We had not expected such a large crowd.”
AT THE MUKTSAR EVENT 600 WERE SHORTLISTED OF 2,200 WHO APPLIED AT THE FAIR
