ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR KOHLI
That’s not something you aim for, but as batsmen you respect what these legends have achieved. It’s nice to have equalled one. But (Sachin) is a bit away. That is going to take one hell of an effort. VIRAT KOHLI, After equalling Ponting’s 29 ODI centuries
On Sunday, Virat Kohli scored his 30th hundred, equalling No. 2-placed Ricky Ponting on the list of all-time century makers. Sachin Tendulkar leads the pack with 49 centuries.
Galloping ahead
Virat’s 30 centuries have taken him just 194 ODIs and 186 innings. Ponting took 349 innings to get to it. Sachin Tendulkar took 267 innings. After 186 innings, Tendulkar had just 16 tons and Ponting had 15.
Master chaser
This was Kohli’s 19th century while chasing, which is more than the next best, Sachin Tendulkar who has 17. Kohli already has the most centuries in successful chases – 17 in all. The next best. Tendulkar, has 14.
Age on his side
Interestingly, Tendulkar reached his 30th ODI ton when he was 28 just like Virat Kohli. He had played 12 years of international cricket by then. Tendulkar scored 19 more tons in the next 11 years. Virat has played nine years of international cricket. He may score the next 19 in far quicker time considering the amount of ODIs India play.
Runs galore
With the year just into the ninth month, the India skipper has already scored 1000 runs this year. Next best Faf du Plessis has just over 800. This is the fifth time he has done so. Earlier, he had got over 1000 in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
