CM Yogi says CCTV clips show outsiders creating ruckus
GORAKHPUR: Terming violence and lathi-charge on girls at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) a conspiracy against his government, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that he had received intelligence inputs prior to the incident.
He added that he shared the inputs with varsity authorities who failed to deal with the crisis sensitively.
“It is clear that the row escalated due to communication gap between students and university authorities, following which some outsiders got the opportunity to create ruckus.
All such outsiders have been identified through CCTV footage. They will be punished strictly,” said the CM, who is in Gorakhpur till Dussehra.
He added that the report had been sent to the Centre.
He said the university administration had been directed to ensure that no student was harassed. “To avoid such incidents in future, state universities have been asked to work in coordination with the Centre,” he said.
Meanwhile, the UP police crime branch on Thursday served notice to 20 members of the university’s proctorial board to record their statements.
Superintendent of police (crime) Gyanendra Nath Prasad said, “They may submit their statement in written or they may record it before the investigating team...”
