ROHTAK:At least six suspects in the case involving the disappearance of a newborn from Rohtak’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) will undergo polygraph test.

Sources said the special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the case is going to move court to take permission to conduct lie-detection test on these suspects who were present at the spot on the day when the newborn went missing.

The suspects include the nursing and Class 4 staff of the hospital’s gynaecology ward and attendants of patients present in the hospital.

The police on Saturday also arrested the staff nurse, Baljeet Kaur, for lapses found in her duty. She was, however, granted bail within few hours.

Kaur is the same nurse who was earlier suspended by the hospital for dereliction in duty. It was found that she had left the child without supervision for some time in the ward. The SIT has not been able to gather any clues in the case so far, over 20 days after the incident took place.

Besides Baljeet’s suspension, the hospital has terminated the services of seven Class 4 employees and chargesheeted two senior doctors for lapses. PGIMS director Dr Rakesh Gupta had resigned from his post.

Rohtak’s Dairy Mohalla resident Sunny Kumar’s wife Ranju had given birth to a baby boy at the hospital on September 10. Few minutes later, the family was informed that their newborn had gone missing.

The family has been sitting on a dharna outside the hospital for more than 20 days.
