GURDASPUR: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday during a press conference asked Punjab Pradesh Congress president Sunil Jakhar to tell Punjabis why he did not raise his voice against imposition of abiana (canal water user charges) besides introduction of power bills on tubewell motors by the Congress government. He said that it will be a big burden on cotton growers who were passing through a difficult time.

Badal said it was astonishing that Sunil Jakhar had not raised his voice against imposition of abiana despite belonging to an area which relied on the canal water for crop irrigation.

He alleged that the Congress government had withdrawn welfare schemes including the Shagun Scheme, Atta- Dal Scheme and even scholarship scheme for students.

The SAD president also made it clear that the Ranjit Singh Commission was biased towards the Akalis and that no justice could be expected from it. “Justice Ranjit Singh is Sukhpal Khaira’s relative and a close friend of Captain Amarinder Singh ,” Badal said.

Meanwhile, led by Punjab Mahila Congress president Mamta Datta and Gurdaspur district Mahila Congress president Tripta Thakur, around 150 women workers of the Congress showed black flags to Akali leaders at an election rally to be addressed by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal in favour of BJP-SAD alliance candidate Swaran Singh Salaria . JAKHAR IS NO MATCH FOR SALARIA: MAJITHIA GURDASPUR: During a press conference at Dhariwal on Tuesday, former Punjab minister and SAD general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia said, the voters will teach a lesson to the Congress, for not keeping their promises, in the Gurdaspur Parliamentary by-election.BJP-SAD candidate Swaran Singh Salaria has always worked for the welfare of the people of Gurdaspur Parliamentary constituency and Congress nominee Sunil Jakhar,an outsider, is incompetent before him, Majithia claimed.
