Constable murder: Week on, cops fail to arrest ex- councillor

AMRITSAR: The police have failed to arrest former Congress councillor Surinder Chaudhary and his son even seven days after being booked for the murder of a constable deputed with Amritsar police.

Police sources said, Surinder may surrender soon as the police officials have initiated talks with his family.

However, the police arrested one of the six accused involved in the murder on Thursday.

As per the police, numerous raids were conducted at the possible hideouts but the father-son are still absconding.

The accused persons including former Congress councillor Surinder Chaudhary were booked on Tuesday.

Chaudhry, his son Pawan Chaudhary with their accomplice­s were earlier booked under attempt to murder charges.

As per the incident, on June 18, Chaudhry with others had allegedly pelted bricks and stones during a land dispute, injuring two cops, constable Rajesh Kumar and constable Narendra Kumar at Putlighar in Amritsar.

Constable Rajesh Kumar had suffered serious head and chest injuries in a bid to stop the clash between the two groups. Narendra had also suffered minor injuries.

An ex-servicemen, Rajesh, was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition.

The cop was discharged twice after showing recovery.But was admitted again earlier this month.

Police said that the chest injury proved fatal, resulting in his death on Tuesday.

The police officials have now booked Surinder Chaudhry and others for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
