Golden Temple to be decorated with 600 quintal flowers

AMRITSAR: The Golden Temple will be decorated with 600 quintal flowers imported from as many as eight countries to celebrate Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Guru Ram Das, founder of the holy city.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) secretary Roop Singh said “A Mumbai based sangat is spending around ₹15 lakh to decorate the shrine with flowers”.
“Decorators from Mumbai and other states are involved in the preparations. As many as 100 devotees are volunteering for the decoration work, which will begin on Wednesday and the flowers will reach here. The Gurpurab is on October 7,” he said. When asked about the cost of the flowers, he said the sangat is importing the flowers on its own and they did not ask about the money spent on the flowers which contain 20 kinds of flowers at least. He said the flowers from different countries will be used in decoration. The SGPC has also got permission from the Border Security Force (BSF) to decorate the Wagah border with lights for the celebration. The Hall Gate will be lit up as well.
He said the SGPC has also sought cooperation of administration and DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha assured for same.
