AMRITSAR: A day after a head constable was murdered in the city, the police on Thursday booked two persons in this connection.

Police said the accused, identified as Simran Singh and Gurilla, are yet to be arrested as they are on the run.

The duo allegedly fired over ten bullets at victim Baljinder Singh alias Kalu in Gopal Nagar near Friends Avenue on the Majitha Road around 9 pm on Wednesday. Baljinder was recently suspended after a departmental inquiry.

Notably, the victim was the father of gangster Shubham, who fled from the police custody around two months ago. Shubham had allegedly killed Hardev Singh, father of accused Simran Singh, a year ago. Hardev ran a dhabha at the Majitha Road. Police are suspecting that Simran might have taken the revenge.

Shubham has been booked in several criminal cases, including murder and dacoity. He fled from the police custody and is on the run.

“The possibility of murder due to revenge can’t be ruled out,” additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh said.

Victim Baljinder, a resident of Friends Colony, was attacked when he reached street number 2 in Gopal Nagar near his house on his motorcycle.

Sources said the accused were already standing there. “When Baljinder reached the spot, he saw Simran. They had exchange of heated arguments, following which the accused opened fire at Baljinder and fled the spot,” a police officer said.

The victim suffered over ten gun shots and died on the spot. Three bullets were shot at his head, the sources said. Police have procured CCTV footage in which accused were seen walking away in hurry, sources said.
