CHANDIGARH Having received reports that copying in monthly tests at schools has become rampant, the state school education department has issued strict instructions to check this.

About 14,500 schools affiliated with the Haryana Board of School Education 22 lakh students and 75,000 teachers.

Since 20% marks of internal tests are added to Class 10 and 12 board examinations and teachers’ annual performance report are also prepared on the basis of their monthly test results, copying has crept into the system, a senior official said.

And this is the reason behind poor results in the annual examinations, he pointed out.

Aside from our own inspecting teams, even the chief minister good governance associates (CMGGAs) who observed various aspects of the monthly tests, have reported to us that copying has been rampant, he added.

Virender Singh, joint secretary, school education department, who issued instructions in this regard on Wednesday, said though the government had already ordered that the answer sheets of monthly assessment tests would be preserved for testchecking in the presence of students by the inspecting teams, the copying has made inroads into the school examination system.

“Any complicity on the part of the heads of schools will not be tolerated. If a student fails to give 80% correct answers to such questions before the inspecting officer then the subject teacher would be held responsible for fake marking,” he said.
