Chief electoral officer reviews arrangements
GURDASPUR: Chief electoral officer (CEO) Punjab VK Singh reviewed the poll preparations for the last 48 hours before the Gurdaspur Parliamentary bypoll due on October 11.
He was presiding over a meeting of the top civil and police officials,which was attended by the DGP-cum-nodal officer elections VK Bhawra , additional CEO Manjeet Singh Narang, expenditure observer Narinder Singh ,deputy commissioner (DC) Gurdaspur Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu , DC Pathankot Neelima, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurdaspur Harcharan Singh Bhullar, SSP Batala Opinderjit Singh Ghuman and SSP Pathankot Vivek Soni , additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Gurmeet Singh Multani and ADC Pathankot Kulwant Singh .
Addressing the officials,VK Singh ordered to seal all the borders of Gurdaspur Parliamentary constituency for a peaceful election. He also asked the officials to keep an eye on the sensitive pockets across the constituency, where voters may be bribed.
He said, during the last 48 hours before poll that is from 5 pm on October 9 , all the supporters of political parties,who are not registered voters of the constituency, will have to leave the constituency. Besides that all kinds of election campaigns, opinion polls and panel discussions will be banned during the last 48 hours.
Also from 5pm onwards on October 9 to 5 pm on October 11, dry day will be observed in Gurdaspur .No hotel and restaurant will be allowed to serve liquor during that period,he said.
Director general of police(DGP) Bhawra said that more than 10,000 security personnels from Punjab police and paramilitary forces are deployed for the peaceful elections.
