Pregnant woman’s death: CM’s office asks principal secy to act

LUDHIANA: Almost two years after the government-run Mother Child Hospital (MCH), located on the premises of the civil hospital, saw deaths of three pregnant women in three days in December 2015, the chief minister’s Office (CMO) has written to principal secretary, health and family welfare, to take ‘necessary action’ in the case of death of the woman, Amrita, 23.

The office of the principal secy has been asked to intimate the final outcome of action taken on complainan­t Raj Kumar Sathi’s plea for action, directly to Sathi.

Amrita, of Gopal Nagar, Haibowal was admitted to the MCH on November 27, 2015. Her condition had worsened after post-caeseran and she was referred to the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where she died on December, 2015. A state-level committee was formed to investigat­e the three concurrent deaths of pregnant women in three days.

The other two men who had died after being administer­ed a painkiller injection were Sujata and Leena. All had complained of severe stomach pain soon after the injection was administer­ed.
