₹14,000 looted from Tarn Taran petrol pump

The owner claims it was fourth loot bid at his filling station

TARN TARAN: Three unidentifi­ed armed robbers decamped with Rs 14,000 cash at gun point from a petrol pump in Noordi village, 15 km from the district headquarte­rs on Friday.

Before leaving the spot, the robbers also fired gunshots in the air. The entire incident was recorded in closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the petrol pump. Soon after receiving informatio­n about the robbery, assistant sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh, in-charge of town chownki, reached the spot with police party and started probing the matter.

In his complaint to the police, pump owner Bikramjit Singh said that late Friday evening, two unidentifi­ed persons came to the petrol pump on foot.

Singh said they put pointed a gun at the workers and demanded cash.

“The robbers snatched ₹14,000 cash from manager Rakesh Kumar,” he said. “An accomplice of theirs was waiting outside the pump on his bike and the trio fled while firing shots in the air,” he added.

Kuldeep Singh said a case under Sections 382 (theft after preparatio­n made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered.

He further said the police was examining recordings of the CCTV footage. The owner of the pump said it was the fourth loot bid on his petrol pump and that the police should provide adequate security.

3 HELD FOR ROBBERY AT JALANDHAR PETROL PUMP

JALANDHAR:The rural police have arrested three persons in a petrol pump robbery case from Jalandhar, on Saturday. The accused were identified as Rohit, 22, Gurpreet Gopi, 25, and Jeevan, 23, all of Jalandhar. Police said that the two-wheeler-borne trio looted ₹95,000 from a petrol pump worker near Malsia village on Wednesday. Cops scanned CCTV footages from the petrol pump and nabbed the three from a check point in Shahkot.

Police have recovered ₹5,500 cash from their possession. The accused confessed to the crime and told police about Aman, of Haripur in Jalandhar, who helped them in the robbery. He is yet to be arrested. A case was registered under Sections 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
