SIT formed to probe RSS secy’s death in Jalandhar
JALANDHAR Police formed a special investigation team (SIT) on Saturday to probe the death of Kishore Kumar, 31, a secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), whose body was found near Sodal Railway Crossing on Wednesday night.
Kumar was a resident of Saida Gate. His body had marks of severe head injuries.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has termed it to be an accident and claimed that Kumar died after being hit by a running train. A GRP official said that following the accident, one of Kumar’s leg was crushed and detached.
However, his family members claim it to be a murder. Kumar’s brother Pawan Kumar said his brother’s death was a “coldblooded murder”. On Thursday, the family members had submitted an application before the GRP to investigate it as a murder case.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Rajinder Singh, said the SIT will investigate the case. On Saturday, the SIT also visited the spot where Kumar’s body was found.
“The GRP is investigating the case. But we have also formed a SIT to investigate the case at our level after family suspected it to be a murder case,” the DCP said.
Police have recovered Kumar’s mobile phone and wallet, and have ruled out the possibility of theft. Station house officer, Baldev Singh, said the probe is on but he cannot say anything about the case yet. Kumar is survived by his wife Sonu and a seven-year-old daughter. He was a native of Rajasthan and was associated with the RSS from his childhood.
