GURGAON: A 30-year-old woman, who chased phone snatchers and managed to catch hold of one of them, will be awarded by the Gurgaon police.

On Thursday, four unidentified men on a bike snatched a smartphone from the 30-year-old while she was returning home from a mall after shopping. As she gave chase, the accused lost balance and fell.

Police said one of the accused was arrested from the spot and the bike has been recovered. However, three others managed to escape. A snatching case was registered at Sadar police station on Friday.

According to the police, the woman was waiting for an autorickshaw on Sohna highway at 12.30pm after shopping.

“The woman told us that four men in a bike came close to her and one of them slapped her while another snatched her mobile phone. She raised the alarm and also ran after them. They lost their balance while trying to get away and met with an accident, as a car rammed their bike from the opposite side,” said inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station.

The accused was identified as Abdul Farrukh. He was produced in a city court and was taken on five-day police remand.

“Incidents of snatching are on the rise and his arrest might help solve other cases,” said Kumar.
