JALANDHAR COP, SON BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING GIRL

A 19-year-old Non-Resident Indian (NRI) girl was allegedly kidnapped by a police inspector, his wife and son, from Kuhale village of Jalandhar district, on Wednesday. The incident came to light after the girl’s family lodged a police complaint on Saturday evening. Following the compliant, police registered a case against inspector Suresh Kumar, his wife and son, for kidnapping and forcing the girl for marriage.

JALANDHAR A 19-year-old NonResiden­t Indian (NRI) girl was allegedly kidnapped by a police inspector, his wife and son, from Kuhale village of Jalandhar district, on Wednesday.

The incident came to light after the girl’s family lodged a police complaint on Saturday evening. Following the compliant, police registered a case against inspector Suresh Kumar, his wife and son, for kidnapping and forcing the girl for marriage.

Suresh Kumar is posted in Jagron and hails from Chur Chak village in Nakodar subdivisio­n of Jalandhar district.

Police said Harmandeep Kaur, a resident of Philippine, was strolling outside her father’s cold store in Khuhale village when Suresh’s son Karanveer came in a car with his family and kidnapped her.

Harmandeep’s father, Jassa Singh, has alleged that the accused also fled away with her car.

Police have lodged an FIR against the trio and some unidentifi­ed people under sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting a woman to compel her marriage), 506 (criminal intimidati­on) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code at Lamba police station.

Sarbjit Rai, deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP), Kartarpur, said, “Considerin­g the matter’s sensitivit­y, a case was registered immediatel­y after the family approached the police on Saturday.”

Deputy superinten­dent of police added that no arrest has been made so far and that the accused are at large.

“We have conducted raids at Suresh’s house and also in Jagraon, but did not find them. We are scanning the CCTV footages on nearby roads. The investigat­ing is on to trace the girl,” he said.

Harmandeep’s father said she came to India six years ago for . He said Karanveer and his daughter studied together for few years, and he used to follow and tease her. “Karanveer was pressuring my daughter to marry him. Even inspector Suresh Kumar forced me to marry my daughter with his son. But I refused,” Harmandeep’s father told HT over phone.
