Bid to encroach prime land in Faridkot, MC serves notices to two

FARIDKOT : The Faridkot municipal council (MC) has served notices to two local residents for allegedly trying to encroach prime land worth crores of rupees situated on the Kotkapura Road here.

The duo, Ajit Singh and Baljit Singh, have demolished a building on the said land with the help of their aides, without taking MC’s permission and started clearing debris.

The MC notice said the council suffered a financiall­y loss due to their their activities and sought a clarificat­ion on the issue.

Meanwhile, the police impounded a tractor –trailer being used by the accused to clear debris from the site.

Sources said that MC said the value of the land, measuring around 500 square meters, is between Rs 5 crore and Rs 7 crore.

“The land was given to the accused and their aides on rent but on the eve of Diwali, some people demolished the building and shifted its debris to encroach upon the land,” sources said.

MC executive officer Inder Gurpreet Singh said, “We have served notices to the duo and sought a reply on the matter then further action will be taken according to it.

Faridkot station house officer (city) Jagdev Singh said, “We will take action on the recommenda­tions of the municipal council.”

Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon said the matter was not brought to his knowledge and he will check with the MC executive officer.
