ROHTAK : Police on Thursday foiled the kidnap bid of a prominent city doctor (name withheld on request) and rescued his driver in an encounter that led to the death of a kidnapper and injuries to the other. All four kidnappers have been arrested. The remaining two have been nabbed from Nangloi bus stand in Delhi by Rohtak police on Friday evening.

The police said four kidnappers had planned to abduct the doctor and demand ₹ 5 crore ransom from his family. However, they mistakenly kidnapped his driver with his sedan on Wednesday night.

The police said after the kidnappers realised their mistake, they chalked out another plan to kidnap the doctor by demanding Rs 50,000 ransom for his driver.

“They thought that if they would ask for a little amount, the doctor would not inform the cops and also pay the ransom. They had planned to kidnap the doctor when he came to pay the ransom and then ask his family for ₹5 crore as per their original plan,” SP Pankaj Nain said.

The SP said the doctor informed the police when he received the call for ₹50,000 ransom for his driver. The police made four teams and asked the doctor to fix the spot to exchange money for the driver.

“Instead of doctor, a policeman dressed in civil clothes went to the Jind bypass to give the money. But the kidnappers had decided that if they see anyone except the doctor they would run away,” Nain said.

He said seeing the policeman, the kidnappers attempted to flee.

Two of them ran out of the car in fields while the other two fled with the driver in car. While the police lost trace of two who made off on foot, a police team chased the other two and stopped them on the outer Gohana Road.

“Instead of stopping their car, the accused hit the police vehicle due to which both the cars overturned and fell into agriculture fields along the road. The two kidnappers got out of their car and tried running away with the driver on foot. The police team, members of which were injured in the crash followed them and gave another warning asking them to stop. However, the kidnappers fired at the police team,” Nain added.

In retaliation, the police fired 8 shots in which both the kidnappers were injured. The main accused, Ravi Sharma of Rohtak, succumbed to injuries while his associate Devraj alias Himanshu of Delhi has been admitted to hospital,” Nain said.

The police said the other two later nabbed were identified as Salim and Shibbu of Delhi.

The four have been booked under several sections of IPC and raids were being carried out to arrest the remaining two.

The SP said four cops who rescued the driver were also getting treatment from PGIMS and will be given appreciation certificates.
