Journalist attacked in Faridabad for objecting to crackers

FARIDABAD Eight residents of Nangla Enclave area Part 2 in the city have been arrested for beating up a journalist, Bijender Sharma, after he objected to bursting of crackers at around midnight on Diwali day (Thursday). Sharma works for local Hari Bhoomi Hindi newspaper.

“It was about 11.45pm on Oct 19 (Diwali day) when I objected to some people in our locality for burning crackers citing court orders but some of them attacked me with lathis, leaving me injured,” Sharma, the victim added.

“Police were informed, but they came to the spot very late,” Sharma said, claimed that one of the assaulters even picked up a sword to attack him.

“As we came to know about the incident, our cops rushed to the spot and we registered case against the accused and even arrested eight of them,” ACP Mujesar Radhey Shyam said, adding that the police swung into action immediatel­y.

The accused are Manoj Kumar, Jagbir, Boby alias Praveen, Gullu alias Khushiram, Shyamlal, Kailash, Ram Prasad, Vipin—all residents of Nangla Enclave.

“The accused will be produced before court on Saturday,” said station house officer Saran Ved Prakash.

A case was registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence), 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 452 (house trespass after preparatio­n of assault) and 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of the IPC.
