Want to do something for state, but failed to get land twice: Ghai
KURUKSHETRA: Bollywood producer-director Subhash Ghai on Monday expressed his concern over his failure to get land in the state for a film studio.
“I belong to Haryana and want to do something for the state. But I feel sorry to say that I had applied for land (for a film studio) twice but did not get it,” Ghai said, when asked about his contribution to Haryana during his visit to Kurukshetra to attend the closing ceremony of the Akhil Bhartiya Kala Sadhak Sangam-2017.
“In 1995, I had applied for land and the then chief minister Bhajan Lal agreed to provide me 10 acres for a film studio and film school. But after three years, the new government refused to provide land. I raised the issue in 2010 with the then chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for 20 acres at Badhsa village in Jhajjar district, and prepared a plan but the court quashed the allotment again,” Ghai said.
“I am deeply associated with the state as I request people here to associate their children with film and arts,” he said.
He said new India can emerge only by doing research on ancient history and culture and the common man would have to understand the importance of art and culture the development of which requires spiritual and artistic education. Gai said to promote art and culture in the state, a special campaign of cultural programmes should be organised on Saturdays and Sundays in schools for the benefit of youth. Besides, a class of art and culture should be held in every school from primary level on the pattern of the United States.
