-

TARNTARAN: Two unidentified carborne armed men killed a 25-year-old man, reportedly a drug addict, after shooting gun fires on his head, near Patti civil hospital , 24 km from the district headquarters, on Monday.

The incident took place at around 2 pm when the deceased was coming out from the hospital’s drugs de-addiction centre after taking medicine, said the police.

As per the information, Amandeep Singh of Bhikhiwind was getting treatment from Patti civil hospital’s drug de-addiction centre. In the afternoon, the victim was coming out of the hospital, when two Maruti Suzuki Swift car-borne armed miscreants overlaid him and tried to kidnap him, eyewitness said.

“Amandeep refused to go with the miscreants. After a mess, they shot on his head. Soon after Amandeep fell and the armed men fled with their vehicle,” they said. Some passerby took Amandeep to the hospital but the doctors there referred him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Amritsar. He succumbed to his injuries on the way, said the sources.

However, the police didn’t confirm the victim’s death. Patti SHO Hardeep Singh reached the spot with the police and began the investigation.

SHO said, “We are probing the matter thoroughly and a case will be registered after the investigation.”

“We are examining the CCTV footages and the area is totally cordoned off to arrest the armed men and will soon be arrested,” said SSP Darshan Singh Mann.

He said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that Amandeep had a tussle with the accused, due to which they shot him.” But he didn’t confirm about the death. The sources said, the accused are involved in high profile drug smuggling and the victim used to take drugs from them.
