Saffron party politicising martyrs, says Cong
SHIMLA A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party unveiled its vision document for the elections, the Congress party said that the saffron party was politicising martyrs.
Referring to the saffron party’s promise to constitute a battalion, named after Major Somnath Vahini, to curb corruption, Congress party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma, said the BJP is trying to use the name of a decorated army officer.
He said the BJP is promising women’s safety but the record of the same is quite poor in BJPruled states.
He said the data compiled by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) shows that crimes against women are high in the states ruled by the BJP.
Sharma said the BJP has not uttered even a single word on job creation.
“The BJP is silent on job creation. It can’t actually say anything because it has failed to fulfil the pre-poll promise to create jobs,” he said, while addressing a press conference in Shimla.
The Congress leader added, “When Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses rallies in Himachal, people of the state will ask him about his pre-poll promises.”
Sharma said Union finance minister Arun Jaitley should have talked about situation of economy.
“Post-demonetisation and GST, the country’s economy is not galloping, rather it is gasping,” he said.
Sharma also questioned the BJP over its “lavish” expenditure during elections.
“The Prime Minister and Amit Shah should answer about the funding for the election. Whether it is black or white money,” he added.
CONGRESS GOVT TOUCHES HEIGHTS OF CORRUPTION: BJP
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Congress government has touched the height of corruption in Himachal Pradesh.
He said, “The Congress has patronised corruption in Himachal Pradesh.” Trivedi added, “BJP governments in Himachal have always carried out development works.”
Trivedi also hit out at the Congress for former Union home minister P Chidambram’s remarks on Kashmir.
He said people of the state will remember everything.
“People of the state want change. BJP will form a government for sure,” he said, adding, “We have rolled out our vision document and work accordingly when voted to power.”
