Beef suspicion: Cops halt trucks carrying meat

-

JAIPUR: Two trucks carrying meat were stopped by the Bagru police on Monday on suspicion that they were transporting beef.

Cow vigilante groups have claimed that the vehicles were stopped after their informants tipped off the police.

“Two trucks were stopped by the Bagru police and the meat will be tested by veterinary doctors of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC). The men who were driving the trucks said that they were going to Mumbai from Kolkata,” said deputy commissioner of police, west, Ashok Gupta.

He added if the Jaipur Municipal Corporation officials fail to identify the meat, samples will be sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) for further tests.

“In the meat packages it has been mentioned that it’s buffalo meat. But it could be only determined after the tests,” said Gupta.

Sadhvi Kamal ‘Didi’, selfstyled gaurakshak and president of the Rashtriya Mahila Gauraksha Dal said that the trucks were stopped after cow vigilantes informed the police.

Even though till now there’s no evidence that the trucks were transporting beef, the sadhvi, however, appeared certain about the fact.

We received information that beef was being smuggled and our gaurakshaks followed the trucks. It was on our information that the police stopped them. SADHVI KAMAL ‘DIDI’, Rashtriya Mahila Gauraksha Dal president
