BSF MAN KILLED IN PAK SNIPER FIRE

JALANDHAR: The Mehatpur police have registered an first informatio­n report( FIR) against an unidentifi­ed man for allegedly raping a 17- year-old girl, on Wednesday. The victim is hearing and speech impaired and delivered a baby boy on October 8, at Maheru village, around 34km away from the district headquarte­rs.

The incident came to fore on Wednesday when one of the victim’s sisters complained to the police. The victim’ s sister ,20, said that they were poor, so did not report the incident. As per the compliant, the family had also refused to register FIR after the victim delivered the baby.

The victim’ s father is blind and has six children including five daughters and one son. An FIR under Sections 376 and 6, 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Of fences Act 2012 (POCSO) has been registered.

SHO sub- inspector Kewal Singh said, “We will request the authoritie­s to make arrangemen­ts for an expert, who will help us to identify the accused, as she is unable to listen and speak .” He said, they have started a probe. A police team has been sent to the village to gather the informatio­n.

As per the FIR, the victim’ s sister, the victim and their brother,14, are unmarried. Asper the family, the victim used to go out of the house to play.

The family was shocked to learn about her pregnancy. We did not inform the police to protect our family honour, said the victim’s family member.

The complainan­t said, on October 8, when her sister’s health deteriorat­ed, the family took her to the hospital but she delivered the baby on the way. Later she was admitted to Nakodar civil hospital. SHO said, the baby is with the family and both the mother-son are fine.

It is second such incident in thisweek. A few days ago, an FIR was registered against an auto driver for allegedly raping a minor, who later delivered a baby girl. A 14-year-old deaf and dumb girl was allegedly raped by a labour contractor when her parents had gone to work. She delivered a baby girl on August 7 but the baby died of sepsis on September 24. The accused is lodged in Kapurthala jail.
