Vidhan Sabha panel visits Tarn Taran village

TARN TARAN The Vidhan Sabha committee formed to study farmer suicide cases visited Rasulpur village, 5 km from the district headquarte­rs, on Thursday. The committee, set up on July 6 by Vidhan Sabha speaker Rana KP Singh, included chairman Sukhbinder Singh Sarkariya, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Najar Singh Mansahiya and Nathu Ram interacted with Avtar Singh’sfamily, who had committed suicide.

The committee also took suggestion­s to stop the farmers suicides in the state.

Farmer Avtar Singh,40, had committed suicide on December 2, 2016 because he was unable to pay a loan of ₹ 7 lakh.

Chairman Sarkariya said, the committee members have been visiting the districts of the state. They have been doing so to interact with the farmer families and farm labours, who had committed suicides due to financial and economic difficulti­es.

He said, “Suicide does not solve any problem, but makes life difficult for the families.” After visiting districts of the state, the committee will submit its report to Vidhan Sabha, by November end.

He said that the main motive of the visits is to know the reason behind suicides, based on which the report will be presented in the assembly, till December 2017. He said, the instructio­ns were given to the district administra­tion to get the forms filled from the families of the farmers and labours who had committed suicides after 2007 and submit the same to the team within 20 days.

ADC Sandeep Rishi, agricultur­e department joint director Rahul Gupta, chief agricultur­e officer Dr Partap Singh were also present during the visits.
