3 ‘doctors’ arrested for running illegal clinics in Gurgaon
GURGAON: Acting on a revelation in a Right to Information (RTI) application, three doctors were arrested by the police on Sunday for illegally running clinics in the city.
According to police, two of the accused were identified as Dr RK Bhiswas and Dr Narender Raghav, who were running clinics without requisite documents in Badshahpur.
A case against them was registered at the Badshahpur police station based on the health department’s complaint.
Another doctor running an illegal clinic was arrested from Farrukhnagar. Authorities were at the spot but they did not disclose the doctor’s identity.
“Probe was ongoing in both the cases. The three have been booked under sections of the Indian Medical Council Act,” Gurgaon civil surgeon BK Rajora said. In such cases, action is also initiated under Section 420 (fraud) of IPC and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Mahender Kumar of Sohna had filed an RTI application on October 10 which was directed to the civil surgeon office. As per health department officials, in the RTI’s reply, the civil surgeon’s office revealed that 224 ille- gal clinics and nursing homes were operating in the city under community health centre (CHC).
As many as 141 fake doctors were practising without the medical degree or certificates. The list included 23 illegal clinics and nursing homes in Pataudi, one in Bhangrola, 18 in Bhodakala, 15 in Sohna, 54 in Farrukhnagar, 48 in Garhi Harsaru, 26 in Gangrola and 39 in Badshahpur. Seven teams were formed on the directions of Rajora which included officials from the civil surgeon office, health department, and drug control officers. On Sunday, the teams raided clinics and found most of them closed. Two clinics at Badshahpur, one each at Bhangrola, Farrukhnagar and Garhi Harsaru were found open. Doctors in the clinics at Bhangrola and Garhi Harsaru were not present, said the police.
