Bhopal gang rape: 5 suspensions later, 2 IPS officers transferred
BHOPAL: Inspector-general of police (IG), Bhopal, Yogesh Choudhary and superintendent of police, railways (SP), Anita Malviya were shifted on Sunday following a spate of suspensions after a girl was gang raped in the city on Tuesday.
SP Malviya had come under attack from Opposition parties after footage of her laughing while speaking with the media regarding the gang rape surfaced. Opposition leaders and even BJP state spokesperson Rajneesh Agrawal demanded action against her.
Though the home department issued transfer orders of 10 IPS officers on Sunday, it didn’t assign any reason to their transfers.
However, the functioning of both the top cops came under scanner after the gang rape incident came to light.
After the incident on Tuesday, the victim’s parents alleged that the police refused to lodge the FIR and they were made to run from one police station to another.
The report could be lodged on Wednesday evening with the Habibganj police station and later transferred to the government railway police.
The gang rape has rocked the state as it happened in middle of the city hardly 200 meters away from the railway police station and RPF outpost at Habibganj police station and it came only a few days after chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke of women empowerment in Madhya Pradesh being better than the USA’.
Earlier in the week, five police personnel including police officers in charge of three police stations were suspended.
