Neighbours clash with 2 cops for bringing woman to house
THE TWO POLICEMEN HAVE BEEN BOOKED FOR ASSAULT ON A LOCAL WOMAN’S COMPLAINT; RESIDENTS ALLEGEDLY TOOK THE COPS HOSTAGE AND INFORMED THE POLICE
ROHTAK : Residents of Rajiv Colony here clashed with two policemen and took them hostage on Wednesday night after they allegedly brought a woman to their rented accommodation in the locality. The residents said three cops came with a woman to the house.
A verbal altercation ensued when some residents confronted the cops on bringing the woman. The colony members said the cops then left with the woman, but two of them returned Wednesday night and misbehaved with a woman who had confronted them earlier.
This irked the residents, who allegedly took the cops hostage and informed the police. They alleged that the cops often created ruckus in an inebriated condition. It took the police control room (PCR) van half an hour to take the two cops out from the area as residents protested.
The residents then late night reached superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Nain’s house and demanded a case against the cops for misbehaving and threatening the colony woman, identified as Rekha Devi.
The policemen, on the other hand, denied allegations and accused the residents of misbehaving with them. SP Pankaj Nain said he has ordered a detailed inquiry under Shivaji Colony police station house officer (SHO).
The police have booked the two policemen under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) on Rekha’s complaint, the station house officer said.
He said one of the accused has been identified as constable Sandeep, while the other has been booked as unidentified.
The two policemen work as gunmen of a judicial officer here, it was learnt. The Shivaji Colony SHO further said no arrest has been made so far and investigation on cross complaint against colony residents was going on.
