THREE INMATES BOOKED FOR ASSAULTING DSP IN AMRITSAR JAIL
AMRITSAR: The local police booked three prisoners lodged in Amritsar Central Jail for allegedly abusing and manhandling deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Hemant Sharma on Monday.
The police booked two brothers Harcharn Singh and Swaran Singh along with Ranbir Singh. The men are in jail for a murder case.
It was averred that DSP Sharma was conducting a check in the jail premises and saw the three accused making tea using a bigger utensil than the permissible size. When he objected, the trio abused and physically assaulted the DSP.
The accused were controlled by the jail staff and a case was registered against them at Gate Hakima police station.
A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prisoner Act was registered.
Meanwhile, police also caught an Ajnala resident identified as Rajbir Singh, for throwing a bundle of cigarettes inside the jail premises. Rajbir’s accomplice Harjinder managed to flee.
Sub-inspector Vipal Kumar said, a police patrolling team saw the two men throwing the cigarette bundle inside the premises from the back of the jail wall. The bundle was for Kashmir Singh who is lodged in the jail under the NDPS Act, said Kumar. “They were standing in the fields near the jail wall. We are conducting raids to arrest the absconding accused,” said Kumar.
DSP HAD OBJECTED TO THE THREE ACCUSED MAKING TEA USING A UTENSIL BIGGER THAN PERMITTED
