CHANDIGARH: Former chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron Parkash Singh Badal on Monday said leader of opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira should tender his resignation on moral grounds.

In a statement here, Badal said: “I was the first person to ask for Khaira’s resignation on November 1, immediately after he was summoned as an accused in a cross-border drug racket.”

The former CM was reacting to Khaira’s comments, who on Sunday referred to an interview to a news channel that before seeking his resignation, Sukhbir should consult his father.

Former CM said he had demanded Khaira’s resignation in the interest of the people of Punjab because it was the first time that a leader of opposition had been accused of abetting drug smuggling.

SAD-BJP DELEGATION TO MEET GOVERNOR

ANANDPUR SAHIB: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior vicepresident and former minister Daljit Singh Cheema said a delegation the Akali-BJP leaders will meet the Punjab governor on November 22 to seek removal of Aam Aadmi Party’s Sukhpal Khaira from the post of leader of opposition of the Punjab assembly for his alleged role in a drug case.

Talking to the media on Monday, Cheema said it was unfortunate that Khaira was still sticking to his post even after being summoned by the Fazilka court.

Cheema also urged the Punjab assembly speaker to extend the duration of Punjab assembly winter session, beginning November 27, as there were many burning issues which required to be discussed.

ON SUNDAY, KHAIRA HAD ASKED SUKHBIR TO FIRST DISCUSS HIS RESIGNATION DEMAND WITH HIS FATHER
