Four members of Shubham gang held

AMRITSAR: Under the drive to nab gangsters across the state, the Amritsar rural police on Monday claimed to have arrested four accomplice of infamous gangster Shubham , accused in Vipan Sharma murder case.

The arrested persons have been identified as Deepak Singh alias Dipu, Amritpal Singh alias Sajan (both residents of Jandiala Guru), Harpreet Singh alias Ajay, of Raipur Kalan village and Jagtar Singh alias Jagga of Sheronbagh­a village falling under jurisdicti­on of Beas police station.

Senior superinten­dent of police (Amritsar-rural) Parampal Singh said that the accused were planning to loot Oriental Bank at Gunowali Puli near Jandiala Guru on Sunday evening. He said the accused also had firearms.

“We got a tip off about their plan according to which, they were to shoot anybody trying to stop them or create any hindrance. A police team conducted a raid and arrested the four accused,” the SSP said. The fifth accused Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Manawala village managed to flee from the spot, he said.

One pistol of .32 bore with four live rounds, one pistol of .315 bore with two live rounds, three sharpedged weapons and two cars have been recovered from their possession, said the police.

Pertinentl­y, the Amritsar-rural police chief said that the accused Ajay was recently out on a bail in a NDPS case.

Another accused Dipu used to provide accommodat­ion and vehicles to the gangsters, said the police.

A case has been registered against the five persons under Sections 399 (making preparatio­n to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the IPC and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.

Notably, Sukhwinder Singh alias Raju and Sukhpal Singh Moto who are accomplice­s of Saraj Sandhu, prime accused in Sharma murder case, and Shubham, were recently arrested from Mohali.

“If we want to demolish a building, we need to pull out the pillars. The arrested persons are like pillars. This arrest will help us to nab the kingpins of other gangs,” said SSP Parampal Singh.
