ROHTAK : Haryana director general of police BS Sandhu inaugurated a Mitr Kaksh (‘Friendly Room’) at the Rohtak police station on Saturday. Mitr Kaksh is a concept under which separate offices are located inside police stations where people will be able to lodge complaints, file police-related RTIS, apply for licences of hotels, cyber cafes, obtain police clearence certificate, character cerificate etc.

Rohtak is the second district where the Mitr Kaksh became functional on Saturday. Earlier, the DGP had inaugurated it in Karnal.

The Haryana government plans to open such rooms in all police stations across the state.

“Even after 70 years of independence, people fear going to police stations to register their complaints. This will stop with functional Mitra Kaksh. People will feel welcome in police stations,” DGP Sandhu said.

The DGP said cops working in the Mitr Kaksh had been given special training.

They will sit in civil dress, so people don’t have any fear of talking to policemen. The entire work will be online.

“Police should be friends with residents, not goons,” the DGP said, going on to add that the police will soon hire 12,000 jawans to fill the shortage of manpower.

He said the Haryana Police were in the process of increasing women in the force to 30% from present 10%.

He added six districts in the state were presently working with a woman superintendent of police and that they were setting up a centralised control room in Panchkula.

“We are in the process of procuring 600 new vehicles for the force,” he added.
