102kg ‘bhukki’ hidden under cylinders seized from truck

GURDASPUR : The district police recovered one quintal 'bhuki', being smuggled in truck,caught another stolen truck, loaded with ghee tins, and seized a truck with a fake registrati­on number here on Tuesday.

Gurdaspur senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Hs.bhullar said that,on a tip-off, a police party, led by deputy superinten­dent of police (rural 1) Manjit Singh, signalled a truck (PB 06 AK 2318) to stop when it was moving towards the dhussi bandh (katcha embankment) of the Beas river in Hoshiarpur district. When the police searched the truck loaded with empty LPG gas cylinders, they found 102 kg bhuki' powder kept in gunny bags under empty cylinders.

A case under sections 15,61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against driver Gurwel Singh alias Gola of Awahan village, Ashok Kumar of Navian Bagarhian and Jaswinder Singh alias Kaddu of Awahan at the police station, Bhaini Mian Khan. All the accused were arrested on the spot.

The SSP said that the police also caught a truck (PB 11 AT 7457), loaded with 1,290 tins of ghee,stolen from Dasuya (Hoshiarpur) Tuesdy night, at the Babri bypass.

The SSP said that taking advantage of darkness, occupants managed to escape. The SSP said that a case under sections 379 (punishment for theft) and 411 (dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) has been registered against the unidentifi­ed persons at the sadar police station, gurdaspur. the ghee tins were loaded from a transport company of Rajpura and were to be delivered at Jammu.

TRUCK WITH FAKE NUMBER PLATE

Bhullar said that the police also caught a truck with a fake registrati­on number plate during a naka at Pulli Mangal Sen under the Kalanaur police station on Monday evening. Bhullar said that a case under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468, (forgery for purpose of cheating) 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) . 473 (making or possessing counterfei­t seal, etc) , 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonme­nt) of the IPC was registered .
