Sushil resigns as govt observer

NEWDELHI: Double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar quit as the government observer for wrestling, and his resignatio­n has been accepted by the sports ministry. Sushil recently made a comeback to competitio­n and continuing as government observer was seen as conflict of interest. Last week, MC Mary Kom had quit as the government observer for boxing.

IAIZAWL FACE ZOBAHAN

NEW DELHI: I-league champions

Aizawl FC will play Iranian side Zobahan FC in the play-off match of the AFC Champions League on January 30.

If they beat Zobahan, they will be placed in Group B in the main round of the prestigiou­s continenta­l league along with Al Duhail (Qatar), Al Wahda (UAE) and PFC Lokomotiv (Uzbekistan). Bengaluru FC play Transport United of Bhutan on January 23 and 30 in the preliminar­y round.

INDIA CAN PRODUCE 100 USAIN BOLTS: RATHORE NEW DELHI: Sports minister

Rajyavardh­an Rathore said India had the potential to produce 100 Usain Bolts if everyone pitched in to change the country’s sports culture. “I believe that a country with 1.25 billion population has capability of producing 100 Usain Bolts,” said Rathore.

ADITI T29 IN DUBAI

DUBAI: Aditi Ashok began her quest for a Desert double as she opened with a modest one-under 71 in the opening round of the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic. Aditi had three birdies and is placed T29th.
