ROHTAK :In yet another incident of a false rape case in Haryana, a Rewari court has ordered probe into honeytrap angle after acquitting five men, including a police personnel, of charges of gang-raping a woman.

The case dates back to March 2016 when a woman had filed a complaint against constable Rajkumar and his four friends of abducting, drugging and gang-raping her at the cop’s residence.

The woman stated in her complaint that the constable gave her lift in his car but took her to his house where four of his friends joined him to gangrape her. She alleged that she was drugged and beaten up by the five men, and she later managed to free herself from their custody.

However, the woman failed to prove her case in the court. Several witnesses gave their testimonies against the woman and her medical examination and phone location also belied her claim.

The five men submitted an evidence of a sting operation in court wherein the woman allegedly demanded ₹50 lakh from them to settle the case. The woman allegedly asked to hand over the amount to an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted in Gurgaon.

The court of additional sessions judge Phalit Sharma acquitted the five men of all charges, and asked the police to investigate the woman and the ASI if they were running a honeytrap racket to extort money by lodging false rape cases.

The court in its remark said the women lodging false rape complaints should in no case be given monetary help as compensation.

Earlier this year, the same judge had ordered to put on trial four women in Rewari who were found to have lodged false rape cases to settle personal scores. In May this year in Rohtak, a court had awarded seven-year jail term to a woman who had filed false gang-rape complaint against her husband and brothers-in-law.

A Haryana Police report examining cases of 2016 said around 30% rape complaints registered in the state are found false.
