FARIDKOT :Nearly 250 students of Chintpurni Medical College staged a protest in New Delhi on Monday against the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Supreme Court-constituted oversight committee for allegedly delaying the approval for shifting them to other medical colleges in the state.

The students said they went to the Union ministry of health to raise the issue to which the ministry officials told them that they are waiting for approval from the oversight committee.

Dr Sushil Garg, president, Chintpurni Medical College Parents Association, said the students also went to the oversight committee secretary Sanjay Srivastav who told them to meet the committee chairman VK Paul because he has to give nod on the matter.

He further said that Paul refused to meet the students claiming he was busy.

Garg alleged that the oversight committee has to delay the approval as they want to give time to the college management to get a stay from the Supreme Court.

“The oversight committee has been working under pressure and is hand in glove with Swaran Salaria, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who owned the medical college”, said Garg.

“If Banur-based Gian Sagar Medical College students could be shifted within 15 days, then why not us?” a student questioned.
