NHM workers to intensify stir
KARNAL: With the BJP government in Haryana seemingly reluctant to accept the demands of National Health Mission workers, the striking employees have planned to intensify their agitation by holding protests at the district headquarters.
The NHM employees have been on strike for the last 10 days demanding implementation the recommendations of the seventh pay commission, Saman Kam Saman Vetan and framing of service rules for them.
In a bid to stop the protesting employees, the administration had issued termination orders for those on strike, following which several employees had joined their duties.
But Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s recent statement that nobody has been sacked and the employees have only been warned, has irked the protesting employees.
“We have already been terminated by the local authorities and the chief minister is giving out misleading statements that nobody has been terminated,” said Indu Khurana, an NHM employee in Karnal.
“They did not accept our demands. On the contrary, the CM is giving out misleading statements in the media about the hike in our salary. They made only a nominal increase of about ₹200 in our salaries,” she added.
Sanjeev Kumar, district president of NHM employees union, Karnal, said, “The protest will continue till the government accepts our demands. We will hold protests at the district headquarters in the next two days.”
The chief minister’s statement has created confusion among the ground level officers, who had earlier issued termination orders.
“We had followed the orders of the government and created the list of employees who did not join duty despite repeated requests. But we did not issue the orders individually,” said Karnal CMO Yogesh Sharma.
Similarly, Yamunanagar CMO Kuldeep Singh said, “It was mandatory to resume emergency services immediately so as per the directions of the government, the drivers were recruited for the ambulance services.”
