Bathinda coldest in Punjab; trains cancelled due to fog

BATHINDA RECORDS 3.2°CELSIUS; LUDHIANA AND AMRITSAR HAD A LOW OF 4.1 °CELSIUS EACH WHILE ADAMPUR IN JALANDHAR RECORDS 4.7°CELSIUS

JALANDHAR/NEWDELHI: Cold conditions prevailed in Punjab and its neighbouri­ng state Haryana on Saturday with a thick blanket of fog affecting the movement of air, rail and road traffic in the region.

Due to foggy weather conditions which are expected to worsen in the coming days, the Ferozepur railway division has announced the cancellati­on of several trains.

Bathinda was the coldest place in the region, recording a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Amritsar had a low of 4.1 degrees Celsius each and Adampur 4.7 degrees Celsius.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Hisar recorded the minimum temperatur­e at 4.9°C on Friday night. The meteorolog­ical department at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultur­e University (CCSHAU) has predicted more cold winds in Sirsa, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bhiwani and Jind in the coming days.

Sirsa recorded a minimum of 5 degrees Celsius and Fatehabad 5.5°egrees Celsius.

The mercury in Punjab, Haryana and the national capital dipped over the last few days due to rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhan­d and Jammu and Kashmir.

The MET office has forecast a mainly dry weather in the state over the next few days. On Sunday, cold wave conditions are likely in parts of Punjab, places and Haryana, the meteorolog­ical department said.

Churu in neighbouri­ng Rajasthan quivered at 1.8 degrees Celsius, the meteorolog­ical department said. Pilani and Srigangana­gar recorded minimum temperatur­es of of 2.4 and 3.9 degrees Celsius respective­ly, while the night temperatur­e at Bikaner, Sikar, Vanasthali, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota was 5.2, 5.5, 7.6, 9.1, 9.8, 10.7 and 12.2 degrees Celsius respective­ly.

TRAINS CANCELLED

Among those cancelled were the Shaheed Express (14673) from Jaynagar to Amritsar, the SHCASR Jansewa Express (15209) from Saharsa (Bihar) to Amritsar, the BJU-SHC Express (15276) from Barauni (Bihar) to Saharsa, the CDG-JP Intercity (19718) from Chandigarh to Jaipur (Rajasthan), the DLI-FZR passenger (54641) from Delhi to Ferozepur Cantonment.

Various intercity trains were also cancelled in the wake of the fog in the northern region.

Among some of the trains which were cancelled by the division on Saturday were the JUC-ASR (74642) from Amritsar to Jalandhar (city), the JUCASR DMU (74643) from Jalandhar city to Amritsar, the LDH-JUC-DMU (74647) from Ludhiana to Jalandhar city, the PTK-ASR DMU (74672) from Pathankot to Amritsar, the ASRPTK DMU (74675) from the Amritsar junction to Pathankot, the HSX-JUC DMU (74911) from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar city, the HSX-JUC DMU (74912) from Jalandhar city to Hoshiarpur, the FZR-JUC DMU (74932) from Ferozepur Cantonment to Jalandhar city, the JUC-FZR DMU (74939) from Jalandhar city to Ferozepur Cantonment, thefka KKP DMU (74981) from Kotkapura (Faridkot) to Fazilka.
