ROHTAK: The police on Saturday claimed to have solved the murder case of a woman, whose chopped body parts were found in Rohtak earlier this week, with the arrest of her husband. The woman has been identified as Geetanjali, hailing from Jalandhar in Punjab, and was married off to Rajkumar Sachdeva, a resident of Rohtak’s Gandhi Camp, in 2010.

Police said Geetanjali had fallen in love with the husband of Sachdeva’s sister, Rakesh Kumar. Since June this year, she had been in a live-in relationship with Kumar in Kaithal. On November 13, Geetanjali had returned to her residence in Rohtak to collect her winter clothes when she had a fight with her husband. Police said that during their fight, Sachdeva banged Geetanjali’s head on the wall, which killed her on the spot. He then axed her body into several pieces and threw them at different spots in the city. Police had recovered Geetanjali’s torso on December 11 near Purana Sugar Mill area in Rohtak’s outskirts when dogs were feeding on it. Another part of her upper body was found inside bushes near a government school in Makrauli village on November 22. The remaining missing body parts were thrown off in JLN Canal and are yet to be found. Rohtak superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Nain said that after finding the body, they gathered the list of women that were reported missing.

They found that Geetanjali had been missing for some time, following which they interrogated her husband who confessed to have murdered her. The SP said they will now match the DNA of the woman with her children to legally establish her identity. He said they have arrested Rajkumar, who will be produced in the court on Sunday where police will seek maximum remand. The couple had a schoolgoing son and a daughter.
