LUDHIANA: Efforts are afoot to uplift the small and medium scale enterprises in the country as these firms play a pivotal role in the country’s development, said Giriraj Singh, Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMES).

The minister was in Ludhiana on Monday to review the schemes of the central government.

While addressing media persons during a press conference at Circuit House, Giriraj added, “We support the growth of large-scale enterprises but our emphasis is also on MSMES since they form a large part of the corporate and manufacturing sector of the country. To that effect, we have introduced subsidies and concessions for small-scale firms. A comprehensive or holistic growth is only possible if smallscale industries are uplifted and a slew of measures in this direction have produced phenomenal results lately.”

We, through our development policies, also ensure that industrial hubs are developed as per the geographical conditions and large-scale industries are also promoted on par with small scale firms.

When asked to comment on GST, Giriraj said, “GST was one of the most constructive steps taken by the government to ensure the development of the country. Till the end of 2018, GST would deliver results as were expected of it initially. Further, revenue collections from GST will be invested in developmental projects of the country.”

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s ban on triple talaq, he said, “The ban on triple talaq will not only empower the women of the country but will also be instrumental in lowering the rate of crime against women.”
